Soloway JCC Aquatics

An indoor pool with a slide

The Levitank Saltwater Pool

The Levitank pool is a 4 lane, 25m Main Pool with a beach-like ramp, therapeutic hot tub, shallow baby pool, slide, and patio lounge.

A salt water pool means a healthier swim without the itchy, burning red eyes or strong chlorine smell that usually accompanies a dip in the pool. The mild saline feels soft on your skin and it has been proven to be advantageous for asthmatics and allergy prone swimmers.

The pool office handles first aid and emergency response for the entire Soloway JCC.

General Pool & Hot Tub Schedule

The pool is open from the time the building opens to one 1/2 hour before the building closes (except Saturdays). Swimmers will find one lap lane open at all times except during group lessons and Aquatic Fitness programs.

Our hot tub is also open from the time the building opens to one-half hour before closing, except during restricted gender swims (where access is granted to men or women only).

Advanced Lifesaving Classes

The Lifesaving Society provides a fun and challenging progression of lifesaving training programs. The Canadian Swim Patrol, and 3 Bronze medal awards are designed for swimmers between 8 and 15 years of age. Our first aid certifications focus on the practical ABCs of lifesaving. National Lifeguard certification is the Canadian industry standard to work as a lifeguard.

Bronze Star

Bronze Star is designed to deliver high performance training for skilled pre-teens. Participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills individually and with partners. They also learn CPR and develop confidence and the lifesaving skills needed to be their own personal lifeguard. No exam in this course.

Bronze Medallion

Teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education — judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows, carries, and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk. Participants develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a timed swim. Exam day on last class.

Bronze Cross

This is the third advanced course and is for people who have passed Bronze Medallion

Designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of advanced training including an introduction to safety supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross teaches the difference between lifesaving and lifeguarding, the principles of emergency procedures, and teamwork. Exam day of last class.

This class does NOT include an SFA qualification.

National Lifeguard

This is the final advanced course that we offer.

Recognized as the standard of lifeguard performance in Canada, National Lifeguard Service Award is designed to develop a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment and a mature and responsible attitude towards the role of a lifeguard. Exclusive to the SJCC; we offer additional training on dealing with religious gender issues during public supervision, intervention and first aid. Exam at last class.

Please note: this class requires a Standard First Aid qualification that you must have taken elsewhere. We recommend The City of Ottawa, The Lifesaving Society, The Red Cross, St John’s Ambulance, or The Canadian Ski Patrol
